Here we go. Next weekend is THE weekend to be in Detroit for gearheads. In addition to the remarkable
Woodward Dream Cruise event, we also have
Back to the Bricks in Flint, as well as
Cheeseburger Fest in Caseville. If you include Pat Benetar/REO Speedwagon or the J. Geils Band concerts at
Pine Knob this weekend (up yours DTE), you can easily send your brain into sensory overload!

Roy Warshawsky may be turning over in his grave. Warshawsky's (Whitney) has been a Chicago institution inside the collector car & truck hobby for decades. When the new catalogs hit the mail box, I used to be amazed at the good quality name brand stuff you'd occasionally see there. As of late, the catalog seems to be peppered with junk from China.
The future of the iconic brand remains in doubt, because the new owners, US Auto Parts, purchased the JCW in order to absorb the company's $10mm distribution hub & $15mm of inventory & expand their network. US Auto Parts is a large player in the e-tail aftermarket of today, so the JCW brand itself may have little value for them. Personally, I'll miss the catalogs.

For years, I've been supporting a local charity, the Pontiac Rescue Mission, which is now known as Grace Centers of Hope. I'm not a big supporter of religious type charities, but unlike the big ones, I like the fact that the money that this joint raises goes straight to helping their clients with little administrative overhead. A couple of years ago, this charity made news when the CEO's daughter competed as Miss Michigan in the Miss USA Pageant. Those newspaper headlines were pretty out of character for these folks, because they typically go about the job of helping others in relative obscurity.
This year, they're raffling off a 1971 Charger to raise operating capital for the year. How cool is that? What the heck? That's darn few tickets for such a cool car. The odds are pretty darn good, so we all have a fair-to-middlin' chance of driving this MOPAR home.
(I suspect that Southern Motors has had a hand in helping them set this deal up)
